Welcome to InterVIEWS-day TUESday (Say it out loud. It rhymes.)! Each week, we’ll feature a different Araca Project participant answering questions on all the hard-hitting issues, like which Friends character they most resemble. This week, we have The Mess herself, Cait Doyle, of Hot Mess in Manhattan. Photo Credit: Monica Simoes for BroadwayWorld. Enjoy!
Full name: Cait Doyle
What is your involvement in Araca Project 2012?
I am the conceiver/co-librettist/performer on Hot Mess In Manhattan: THE MUSICAL.
Describe your show in one sentence. No semi-colons.
A high-heeled low-brow 90 minute musical comedy of a 20-something girl finding her place in Manhattan despite the false promises made to her by Sex and the City and the like.
What is your favorite thing about your show (no spoilers!)?
The fact that it was through-composed by a dozen of New York’s hottest new musical theatre composers—Adam Gwon, Salzman & Cunningham, etc.!
What was the first show you worked on in any capacity?
Technically a dance recital in which the theme was ‘Disney’- cute, right? No it was not, because I had to be a penguin in the Mary Poppins sequence. A penguin.
What is your biggest show catastrophe, on stage or off?
It was in ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’ senior year at Syracuse University. I was dressed as a mother at her daughters wedding in a fat suit with these sandbag boobs that snapped onto the fat suit. I hit the last pose in a dance number and one of the boobs snapped off and hit the stage with a loud thump.
What are your top 3 theatre experiences (as an audience member or participant)?
Watching Bernadette as Mama Rose (obvi), performing the role of Cathy in The Last 5 Years, and God-willing the third will be my experience with Hot Mess in Manhattan: the Musical this August.
What was your favorite college restaurant?
I was too poor for that shit.
What is your earliest memory?
Same answer as above.
What is your internet and/or social media obsession?
Ooh! I think passiveaggressivenotes.com is funny.
If you were a Friends character, who would you be?
I would be a new ‘Friend’- I’ll name her Stephanie- that has a teeny apartment like the rest of NY and told them all how lucky they were for their huge lofts!
What was your favorite movie in each decade of your life?
90’s: A League of Their Own
2010’s: Hot Mess in Manhattan: the MOVIE. J
What is your favorite Olympic event?
Coffee or tea? Coffee
Mad Men or Breaking Bad? Breaking Bad
Mac or PC? Mac
Manhattan or Brooklyn? Manhattan
Hiking or biking? Hiking… if you insist I pick one of these sweat filled activities.
Thanks, Cait! Happy Tuesday, all!
